Zegerid is a medicine to treat heartburn or esophageal irritation due to GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) It may also be used to treat small intestine or stomach ulcers. It may also reduce the stomach bleeding risk in patients who are severely ill. It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.
It refers to the combination of sodium bicarbonate and PPI (proton pump inhibitor). PPI reduces the acid production in the stomach. The sodium bicarbonate reduces the PPI breakdown in the stomach, promoting better absorption of PPI.
