Ursodiol is a medicine to prevent/treat gallstones. It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.
The medicine is a bile acid made in the body. It dissolves the cholesterol, causing gallstones, and inhibits cholesterol production in the liver and absorption in intestines, thus helping to decrease the gallstone formation. It also reduces other bile acids harmful to liver cells at increased levels.
