Nifedipine is a medicine to treat chest pain (angina). It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.
It refers to calcium channel blockers. It relaxes the blood vessels by altering the level of calcium to constrict blood vessels and contract heart muscle (thus, improving the heart beat and decreasing the heart load) and promote heart nerve conduction (thus, making the heart beat more regular and slower). Calcium channel blockers widen (dilate) the heart arteries and some other arteries (decreasing high blood pressure and chest pain due to angina) and normalize the heart rhythm when the heart beats too fast or irregularly (antiarrhythmia).
