Memantine is a medicine to treat Alzheimer-type dementia (moderate to severe forms). It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.
It refers to NMDA-receptor antagonists. It blocks excess activity of the brain substance (glutamate), which may reduce associated with Alzheimer disease symptoms. It does not cure the Alzheimer disease.
