Generic name: Hydrochlorothiazide / Triamterene
Maxzide is a medicine to treat high blood pressure and edema (retention of fluid). It may be used alone or combined with certain other medicines. It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.
This medicine refers to water pills (diuretics). It is a combination of a hydrochlorothiazide (thiazide diuretic) and triamterene (a potassium-sparing diuretic). It helps kidneys eliminate water and salt (sodium) from the body, thus decreasing blood pressure. The triamterene enables to minimize the loss of potassium.
