Levothyroxine is a medicine to treat/suppress goiters of different types and treat low thyroid activity. It may be combined with other medicines and surgery to manage thyroid cancer.
It refers to thyroid hormones. Thyroid gland produces thyroid hormones, which regulate the metabolism in the body. If the thyroid gland is not active enough (hypothyroidism) it produces thyroid hormones in the lower quantity than necessary and this slows the metabolism.
