Levonorgestrel is a medicine to prevent pregnancy following suspected failure of birth control or unprotected sexual intercourse.

It refers to progestins. The exact mechanism of its work is unknown. It may inhibit ovulation, alter sperm/eggs transport to avoid fertilization, or alter the uterus lining to prevent implantation in case of fertilization, thus preventing pregnancy.
