Finasteride is used to treat urinary problems associated with the enlarged prostate (BPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia). It may also be used to reduce the risk of surgery necessity to treat BPH. It may be combined with other medicines, including doxazosin, to decrease the risk of BPH worsening. It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.
It refers to a type of steroid reductase inhibitor. It lowers the amount of the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) produced in the body. This reduces the prostate gland, thus, relieving urinary problems.
