Generic name: Verapamil immediate-release
Calan is a medicine for chest pain (chronic stable angina) and high blood pressure. It may be used alone or combined with certain other medicines. It may prevent or treat a heart rhythm disturbance (supraventricular tachycardia). It also treats heart rate rhythm disorders, including atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation. It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.
It refers to calcium channel blockers. The medicine relaxes blood vessels, decreases high blood pressure, and decreases the heart rate, thus, lowering the heart workload. It also increases the flow of blood to the heart, thus relaxing the coronary arteries. It slows the heart rate, the heart electrical conduction, or makes the heart rhythm normal.
Calcium channel blockers have no affect on calcium levels in blood or in bones.
