Generic name: bevacizumab
Avastin is used to treat lung cancer (advanced form). It is used to treat spreading rectal and colon cancer (having metastases in other body parts). The medicine may be combined with other cancer medicines.
It refers to vascular endothelial growth factor monoclonial antibody (VEGF). It blocks the VEGF action, thus stopping the growth and formation of new blood vessels in the tumor. This helps to decrease the spread and growth of cancer.
