Generic name: chloral hydrate

Aquachloral is used to treat somnipathy (sleep disorders). It is also used to prevent or treat alcohol withdrawal symptoms in some patients. It may be used for sleep or sedation effect necessary for certain procedures, or anxiety relief, which is caused by withdrawal of substance or some medical procedures. It is also combined with some other medicines for pain relief in post-surgical patients. It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.

It refers to nonbarbiturate combination of hypnotic and sedative. It makes the brain and central nervous system produce drowsiness. This produces drowsiness, helping to fall asleep. It is less likely to decrease breathing rate in comparison with barbiturate sedative and hypnotic medicines.
