Altoprev Extended-Release Tablets

Generic name: lovastatin

Altoprev decreases high triglycerides and cholesterol. It is also used to increase good cholesterol levels (called HDL or high-density lipoprotein). It is used together with a proper diet. It is used to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack, chest pain associated with angina.  The medicine is used to slow the blockage of blood vessels and to reduce medical procedures for the opening of blocked heart blood vessels. It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.

The medicine refers to HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (called statins). It reduces certain fatty substances production, such as cholesterol.
