Afrin is used to relieve nasal congestion associated with upper respiratory allergies, hay fever, sinus infection, or cold. It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.
It refers to decongestants. It constricts blood vessels, thus shrinking the congested and swollen mucous membranes (nasal tissues). This relieves the stuffy feeling (congestion), improves the mucus drainage, and nasal breathing. Sprays and nasal drops are more effective for vasoconstriction than syrups or tablets.
