Advicor

Generic name: niacin / lovastatin

Advicor is used to reduce high levels of serum triglyceride and improve cholesterol levels. It may be combined with exercise and proper diet. It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.

This medicine refers to the combination of lovastatin (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor) and niacin (vitamin). Lovastatin blocks HMG-CoA reductase, which is needed for the body to produce cholesterol. The exact mechanism of the work of niacin is unknown. It may prevent the low-density (bad cholesterol) lipid production and increase high-density (good cholesterol) lipid production in the liver.
