Acarbose is used to treat type 2 diabetes in adult patients who cannot control their diabetes with diet alone. It may be used alone, combined with insulin or certain other oral diabetes medicines. Acarbose refers to glucosidase inhibitors. It slows down the enzyme turning carbohydrates into glucose; thus decreasing blood sugar levels after a meal.
