Tamiflu For Influenza Prevention

Tamiflu is a prescription medication for treating flu. What are the causes of influenza? Actually influenza is considered to be an infection provoked by a virus. Three influenza types are known. These are type A flu, type B flu and also type C influenza.

The virus of type A is supposed to be the most harmful. This very virus has evolved epidemic in different areas of the world amonf which is of the Spanish influenza that broke out in 1918, also the Asian influenza in 1957 and finally the Hong Kong flu in 1969.

Tamiflu usage

Start taking the drug during 48 hours of the outbreak of symptoms. This medicine is used two times every day: in the evening and in the morning. It is normally prescribed for 5 days. For prevention you are to take the drug once every day: in the evening or in the morning.

The drug should be taken either in the mornings or in the evenings. You cannot use the medication one time in the morning and then in the evening as it will lower its effects. An evening dose is usually advised as it is possible to have a stomach upset while using this drug. The drug is commonly taken for 7 days. People who are working in the infected zones should use Tamiflu for as long as they are working in these areas. The drug protection lasts as much as you are using it.

For the patients with kidney problems the recommended dose is 1 capsule every day provided that they are surely infected. For prevention they are to use it each alternate day.

Tamiflu suspension is advised for children under 12 years. The dosage for prevention of influenza in kids under 12 has not been established yet.
