Bacteria: How To Stay On The Safe Side

Thousands of bacteria live in our kitchen and dangerous E.coli and staph bacteria are among them.

Start cleaning the kitchen from the sink and the faucet. The thing is that water passes through a little screen found on the faucet end and in some time it is not clean.

Any bacteria in water can appear on that screen. As the screen is damp all the time bacteria live freely on it and multiply there. Besides things splash when you rinse dishes. That screen also has food particles on it. And these particles grow various bacteria as well!

It’s necessary to take the screen off and wash it in a dilute bleach.

The drain, the garbage disposal also require special attention. The rubber stopper contains alive bacteria and various germs you are not able to see! You should put it in the bleach while soaking that screen from the faucet.

The sponge you wipe counter tops with, if not bleached regularly, is spreading germs and bacteria every time you wash the counter tops. It is recommended to put these items in the microwave for a minute every day, nevertheless the fact that this is effective in killing bacteria is not proved.

A dish towel and a hand towel are generally kept near the sink. They are used to wipe off fingers in the process of cooking as well as to wipe up some spill. These towels need to be washed with the sponges and different dish rags with bleach.

Lately people have started to try to be more environmentally conscious and decided not to use paper towels. But still paper towel is a better to protect yourself from bacteria although they cannot be washed like dish rags, sponges and kitchen towels.

Bacteria are not the only thing that makes your kitchen dangerous. You should be very cautious with mold. The spores of the mold spread in the air, this means they can easily contaminate food and get into the lungs. It is rather possible to get seriously ill because of mold.

That’s why you should clean the seal on the fridge door with the bleach solution. The accordion folds keeping the door sealed very tightly are a preferable place for mold and bacteria to live and grow.

If there are any drips or spills under the sink, this means that mold could be spreading there as well.
