Zoloft refers to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It affects brain chemicals causing depression, anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive symptoms when unbalanced.
The medicine treats obsessive-compulsive disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders.
Your physician may use the medicine to treat certain other conditions not listed here.
It should not be used with pimozide, monoamine oxidase inhibitors like phenelzine, isocarboxazid, rasagiline, selegiline. Suicidal thoughts may be present after the first use of the medicine, usually in patients under 24. Zoloft is used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or depression. Do not use it in children. You may need regular visits of the physician for the first twelve weeks.
Contact the physician in case of worsening of symptoms, including: anxiety, changes of mood/behavior, panic attacks, sleep problems, irritation, agitation, aggression, restlessness, hyperactivity, increased depression, suicidal thoughts. It may cause heart/lung problems in babies so avoid it in pregnancy. You may have depression in case of discontinuation while pregnancy.
