Toprol-XL refers to beta-blockers. The medicine affects circulation and the heart.
The medicine is used to treat chest pain (angina) and high blood pressure. It is also used for heart attack treatment and prevention.

Avoid it if you have allergy to metoprolol, in case of having heart problems.
Notify the physician if you have circulation problems, pheochromocytoma, congestive heart failure, asthma, other problems with breathing, diabetes, depression, low blood pressure, kidney/liver disease, myasthenia gravis, thyroid disorder.
The medicine may impair reactions or thinking. Be careful while driving. Do not drink alcohol. It should not be discontinued prior to contacting the physician. This may worsen the disease.
You may need to stop it temporarily prior to the surgery. Notify the surgeon of using it beforehand.
The medicine may be combined with exercise, diet, weight control. Follow the physician’s recommendations.
High blood pressure may be symptomless. Do not stop taking it in case of improved health. You may need to take blood pressure medicines constantly.
