Prilosec works by decreasing the acid production in the stomach.
The medicine treats GERD symptoms (gastroesophageal reflux disease) and conditions of increased stomach acid like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It may heal erosive esophagitis (esophagus damage due to stomach acid).
It is combined with antibiotics to treat gastric ulcers due to H. pylori infection.
Your physician may use the medicine to treat certain other conditions not listed here.
Heart attack is often taken for the heartburn. Get medical help if you experience heavy feeling, general ill feeling, chest pain, pain, which spreads to shoulder/arm, nausea/vomiting, sweating.
Notify the physician if you have drug allergy, or liver/heart disease. Your doze may need correction in certain conditions, certain tests may be conducted.
The medicine will not relieve heartburn immediately.
You may need to combine it with antibiotics. Use it as prescribed by the physician. The medicine should be taken as prescribed by the physician. Prilosec may not be taken more often than once a day. The maximum period of taking is 2 weeks.
Take a 4 month break before another 2 weeks treatment.
