Premarin refers to female sex hormones. It is produced in the ovaries. Estrogen reduces intestinal bacteria.
The medicine treats menopausal symptoms like vaginal dryness, hot flashes, irritation, and burning. It may also prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal female patients. It may replace the estrogen in ovarian failure women and in other conditions of low estrogen. The medicine may also treat cancer in men and women.
It does not preventdementia or heart disease as it may increase the risk of these conditions.

Avoid Premarin in case you have a history of stroke, heart attack, blood clot, liver disease, hormone-related cancer (breast or uterine), or abnormal vaginal bleeding. It may harm the unborn child. It should be avoided while pregnancy.
Prolonged use of the medicine increases the risk of stroke, heart attack or breast cancer. The risk is higher in case you are overweight or smoke. Visit the physician every 3-6 months.
You should have regular examination of breasts every month.
