Paxil refers to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It restores natural balance of serotonin in the brain helping to improve certain problems in the mood.
The medicine treats obsessive-compulsive disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders.

Suicidal thoughts may be present after the first use of the medicine, usually in patients under 24. You may need regular visits of the physician for the first twelve weeks.
Contact the physician in case of worsening of symptoms, including: anxiety, changes of mood/behavior, panic attacks, sleep problems, irritation, agitation, aggression, restlessness, hyperactivity, increased depression, suicidal thoughts. It may cause heart/lung problems in babies so it is not recommended while pregnancy. You may have depression in case of discontinuation while pregnancy. In case of pregnancy you should contact doctor to discuss further use of the medicine.
It should not be used with thioridazine, pimozide, monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
Also consult your physician in case of allergy signs, including breathing difficulty; hives, face swelling.
