Lipitor decreases high triglycerides and cholesterol. It is also used to increase good cholesterol levels (called HDL or high-density lipoprotein).
It is used together with a proper diet. It is used to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack, chest pain associated with blood vessel blockage or angina. It is also used for the reduction of hospitalization risk due to congestive heart failure, or necessity in medical procedures for the opening of blocked heart blood vessels. It may also be used by your physician to treat certain other conditions.
The medicine refers to HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (called statins). It reduces cholesterol.
Never take Lipitor if you have allergy to any Lipitor ingredients, liver problems or tests showing abnormal liver function. Do not use it while pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you are using HIV protease inhibitors, mibefradil, itraconazole.
You should contact your health care provider or physician immediately if you experience any side effects.
Many people have no side effects or minor ones. Consult the physician if any of side effects are bothersome or persist: gases, constipation, headache, weakness, stomach upset/pain.
